There is some evidence that this "succulent plant" may have originated in Northern Africa, the Canary Islands, and Cape Verde. Although, it can also be traced back 6,000 years to Egypt where the plant was depicted in stone carvings.

Known as the "plant of immortality," aloe was sometimes presented as a burial gift to deceased pharaohs. Traditionally, aloe has been used topically to heal wounds and to soothe various skin conditions. The ancient Egyptian queen, Cleopatra, was known as a huge proponent of aloe vera for the skin, and using the gel as a sunscreen.

Today, in addition to its traditional uses, people take aloe orally to treat a variety of conditions including diabetes, asthma, epilepsy, and osteoarthritis. Most recently, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved aloe vera as a natural food flavoring.

Again, aloe vera is used extensively in skin care, especially its juice, which may be used in place of water. Because of its many skin soothing properties, it is also used for burns and sunburns and is believed to make skin soft and supple.
We used a large quantity of aloe vera juice in our lotion and wash. The aloe vera that we use is 100% organic.
